Electric Tide is an original abstract acrylic painting inspired by the movement, energy and changing light of the sea.
Built up through layers of colour and texture, the painting combines deep blues, vivid turquoise, warm oranges, coral, crimson and flashes of pale light. Palette knife work creates a heavily worked surface, with scraped, dragged and layered marks allowing colours to emerge through one another.
The horizontal bands and fine lines suggest the movement of water and shifting light, while the contrast between the cool blues and vibrant warm colours gives the painting its electric quality.

Tidal Fire is an original abstract acrylic painting inspired by the dramatic energy of the sea at the end of the day, when dark storm clouds meet intense flashes of fiery colour.
The painting is built up through layers of acrylic paint, with palette knife work, scraping and expressive marks creating movement and texture across the surface. Deep charcoal, black and stormy blues dominate the sky, gradually giving way to vivid oranges, reds and touches of turquoise below.
The intense orange glow creates a strong focal point, contrasting with the darker, atmospheric upper section. The turquoise and blue marks through the lower section suggest reflections across the water, while the horizontal marks give the painting a sense of movement and distance.

Stormlight is an original abstract acrylic painting inspired by the dramatic skies and changing light across the fields of Kent.
The painting is built up through layers of acrylic paint, with expressive palette knife work, scraping and sweeping marks creating movement and texture across the surface. Deep blues, charcoal and grey dominate the stormy sky, contrasting with flashes of vivid red, orange and warm yellow light breaking across the horizon.
Below, layered greens and earthy tones suggest the Kentish fields, while the dark horizon creates a strong separation between the land and the dramatic sky above.
The sweeping marks and contrasting colours capture that fleeting moment when storm clouds move across the landscape and the light suddenly breaks through.
Stormlight is expressive and atmospheric rather than a literal landscape, combining the feeling of the Kent countryside with my abstract approach to colour, texture and movement.

After the Heat is part of my Weathered collection, a body of work exploring the ways weather covers, alters, erodes and leaves traces upon the landscape.
This painting considers the atmosphere that remains after a period of intense summer heat. Warm ochres, burnt oranges and rust tones glow beneath a heavy mass of dark cloud, smoke-like forms and shifting greys. The distinction between weather and smoke is deliberately unclear, allowing the sky to feel both natural and unsettled.
The darker forms appear to move across and obscure the warmth beneath them, creating a sense of something passing through the landscape and leaving its presence behind. Rather than depicting a specific place, the painting focuses on the changing atmosphere and the physical sensation of heat giving way to something darker.

Hidden Heat is part of my Weathered collection, exploring the ways weather can conceal, transform and leave traces upon the landscape.
The painting is dominated by cool blues, muted greys and hazy atmospheric layers, creating a sense of distance and humidity. Beneath these cooler tones, subtle pinks, peaches and warmer colours emerge and recede, suggesting heat held beneath the surface rather than immediately revealed.
The landscape is intentionally indistinct, with softened forms and overlapping layers allowing sky, land and atmosphere to merge. The warmth is not presented as an obvious focal point, but as something gradually discovered within the cooler surface.

Memory of the Bay, A memory rarely stays still. Details soften, colours shift and only the feeling remains.
Memory of the Bay draws on the changing coastline where sea, harbour walls and weather gradually merge into one another. Layers of deep indigo, oxidised teal and warm rust echo salt-stained surfaces, fading light and the marks left behind by years of exposure to the elements.
Rather than depicting a specific place, the painting explores how coastal landscapes are remembered: fragments of colour, worn textures and a quiet horizon that sits just beyond reach. Built through many translucent layers, scraping back and reworking the surface, the painting reveals traces of its own history in much the same way the coast reveals its own.
The result is a calm, atmospheric work that rewards close viewing while offering a strong presence from across the room.

Residual is part of my Weathered collection, which explores what weather covers, erodes, alters and leaves behind.
Here, the landscape is reduced to traces of colour, light and form. Cool blues, greys and muted greens are layered with fragments of warmth, creating an atmosphere that feels both distant and familiar. The boundaries between sky, land and water are deliberately softened, leaving the scene open to interpretation.
The marks and drips across the surface suggest the passage of weather and time — traces that remain even when the original event has disappeared. Residual is concerned less with depicting a particular landscape and more with the evidence left behind: the lingering atmosphere, impressions and fragments that weather deposits upon a place.

Storm Borne is part of my Weathered collection — a body of work exploring weather and its impact on the coast.
The collection looks at the different ways the elements leave their mark: dramatic skies, changing seas, erosion, fallen piers, weathered groynes and the gradual breakdown of structures against wind, rain and time.
This piece focuses on the sky and the atmosphere.
Deep blues, charcoal and smoky greys move across the canvas, broken by rust, burnt orange and warm light towards the horizon. It has the feeling of a storm moving through — dramatic, but with a quieter sense of light beginning to return.
The painting is intentionally somewhere between landscape and abstraction. It isn’t a painting of one particular place; it’s about that familiar feeling of being on the coast when the weather turns.

Weathered explores the quiet traces left behind by the sea.

Before the Break is an original acrylic painting inspired by the dramatic skies over Margate Harbour.
I often paint the bright blues and pinks of the Kent coastline, but this piece took me in a different direction. Using a restrained palette of charcoal, slate grey, soft blue and muted peach, I wanted to capture the feeling of sitting on the harbour steps as a storm rolls in.
The wind blows the cobwebs away, the sea turns steel grey and, just beyond the darkest clouds, a strip of light promises calmer weather after the break.
This painting is about that moment.
Rather than describing every detail of the harbour, I’ve suggested the shoreline and harbour arm with loose, scraped marks, allowing the atmosphere and movement of the sky to remain the focus.
A one-of-a-kind original, painted in my Ramsgate studio and inspired by the ever-changing coastline of Margate.

Built through many layers of acrylic paint, the composition gradually resolved into a quiet horizon where warm light meets deep water. Fine vertical marks along the skyline subtly reference the offshore wind farms visible from the Kent coast.
They reveal themselves gradually, encouraging the viewer to spend time with the painting. The warm burnt orange sky contrasts with deep blues and charcoal tones, creating a calm, atmospheric piece suitable for contemporary interiors.

End of the Pier, Deal is a large original contemporary coastal painting inspired by Deal Pier on the Kent coastline.
Built through multiple layers of paint, sanding and mark-making, the surface has been deliberately weathered to create a sense of atmosphere, memory and place. The pier emerges through shifting veils of turquoise, charcoal and warm copper tones, evoking the changing light and rain-filled skies so familiar along the East Kent coast.
Rather than recording a specific moment, this piece explores the feeling of standing at the water's edge as sea, sky and structure dissolve into one another.

Between Skies is an original abstract painting inspired by the repeated journeys between Ramsgate and Broadstairs, and the changing light that sits over the coastline at sunrise and sunset.
Living in Ramsgate and working in Broadstairs means moving through the same stretches of sea and sky almost daily. Over time, those familiar views begin to hold memory, routine and emotion. This piece was painted from that feeling rather than from a direct landscape.
Built through layered acrylic paint, soft abrasion and shifting surface texture, the painting moves between deep blue, turquoise and warm copper tones, a palette I keep returning to and probably my favourite to work with. There is a balance between calm and warmth in these colours that feels closely tied to the atmosphere of this coastline.
Rather than focusing on detail, the work is more concerned with light, distance and mood, somewhere between weather, memory and horizon.

“Pulled Apart” is an original abstract painting created during an ongoing exploration of sunsets, atmosphere and emotional contrast through abstraction.
This piece became a process of pulling apart my usual way of painting, loosening structure, leaning further into abstraction and allowing instinct and texture to take more control over the final composition. Deep layered blues and dark tonal areas are balanced against softer washes of peach, pale aqua and pink, creating tension between weight and openness.

Low Horizon - Broadstairs Harbour, built through layers rather than a clean, literal scene.
There’s a strong horizon line running through it, with deep teal water below and a softer, weathered sky above. Hints of structure sit along the harbour edge, pulled out in warmer coral tones that break through the surface.
This one shifted a lot while I was painting it—pushed too far, pulled back, then rebuilt again. What’s left is a balance between control and erosion, with texture and fragments of earlier layers still visible.

This original painting is part of my Embers After Dark series, inspired by the shifting light and reflections found around harbours at dusk. I’m drawn to that moment where structure and atmosphere begin to blur, and the familiar becomes something more abstract.
Working in layers, I build up and scrape back paint to create depth, allowing fragments of colour and texture to emerge through the surface. Deep blues and teal tones contrast with warmer ember highlights, capturing both the calm and energy of coastal spaces.
Although inspired by real locations, the piece sits somewhere between memory and place, focusing on atmosphere rather than a fixed view.
